Busan breaks ground on “World Cinema Landmark” project🎉

On Sep 1st, the city of Busan has begun constructions for the “World Cinema Landmark” project which is planned for celebrating the designation of UNESCO Creative City of Film Busan and promoting Busan Cinema Center(BCC), where the main stage of Busan International Film Festival(BIFF), as a global tourist attraction.


The construction is expected to be completed by the next January and plans to carry out two different steps. At the first step, diverse symbolic sculptures and cinema streets will be built in and around BCC, such as memorial colonnades of the 100-year history of Korean cinema, interactive art sites using glasses of the building, LED screen for showing images of visitors, and so on.

For the next step, a convergence cultural complex will be created with a variety of exhibition and experience spaces including diverse studios. Especially, to provide a more plentiful opportunity to enjoy cinema, there will be a film library, DVD rooms, and so on along with ‘Cinema Streaming Zone’ which enables people to watch films with their private mobile devices in the complex through archiving BIFF’s films of all time🎬🎭

Regarding this project, Acting Mayor BYUN Sung-wan said “This will contribute to Busan’s tourism industry through the innovation of the whole district around BCC, moreover, it will contribute to raising UNESCO Creative City of Film Busan’s reputation.”👏
