Busan City of Film is pleased to inform you of the formal start of “2019 Film Production Residency Project and
the 3rd Busan Intercity Film Festival” with an announcement of directors selected for Residency Project!🤩
With its establishment in 2017, “Film Production Residency Project and Busan Intercity Film Festival” is aimed at contributing to the cultural development and active exchanges by expanding network between UNESCO Creative Cities of Film, commemorating the designation of Busan as a UNESCO Creative City of Film in 2014. The slogan of this edition is “Our City – Faces of the cities we live in”.
The 3rd edition of Film Production Residency Project will be conducted in two ways – ‘Residency Busan’ – film production in Busan by an invited director from other city of film as it has done so far and ‘Residency Intercity’ – film production in other city of film by a local director based in Busan. This year, the director from Rome City of Film, Alessandara Pescetta, will participate in ‘Residency Busan’ which will be held in Busan while the director from Busan, Hwi-geun KIM will participate in ‘Residency Intercity’ which will be held in 映像文化創造都市やまがた Yamagata Creative City of Film.
Following this, each director will produce films in each city in accordance with their project, cooperating with local crews. Alessandara Pescetta from Rome City of Film has been actively working as a professional film director for about 30 years. Her representative film <The Shadow of the Bride>, which was shot in Rome, was screened at 2017 Venice Film Festival. In the meantime, Hwi-geun KIM, a local filmmaker in Busan, is an alumnus of Busan Asia Film School whose films were screened and awarded in various film festivals. Especially, his representative film, <The boy who had horns> won a grand prize at 19th Independent Film Festival Busan.
The films produced in this project will be introduced at the closing ceremony of the 3rd Busan Intercity Film Festival. The 3rd Busan Intercity Film Festival will be held in Busan Cinema Center, from May 31 to June 3.
